Age in Place with Home Automation

Aging in place is the ability for you to live in your own home and community safely while maintaining or improving your independence, and comfort, regardless of age, income, or ability level. This growing movement focuses on keeping you in your homes longer as you age. Home automation can be a tool to help you achieve these goals. It will help you enjoy a more comfortable experience in your home, while increasing your safety in your home, monitor your health, increase the ease of communication with your friends, family, co-workers and even health workers.

It is important to realize that this technology is still rapidly changing, so it continues to see many improvements and changes to existing devices, while new devices are being released. Often these devices do not communicate or work with each other and rarely do their instructions clearly explain how to install or use them. This is where we fit in.

We do NOT sell you smart devices. We help you find smart devices that fit your needs. Then show you what to buy and from where. We install and configure them for you. We will integrate them into your home and life. Then give you ongoing support when needed.

As part of our service, we evaluate your internet connection and make sure that you have best available service that will meet your needs and desires.

Examples of devices that help aging in place. Note that all these possibilities are not needed or wanted by everyone.

Health Care

  • Remote Monitoring of breathing, oxygen levels, heart, temperature…
  • Medication reminders s.
  • Daily medical testing
  • Remote medical consultation
  • Medical care coordination
  • Reminders of appointments, drugs and testing

Long distance care giving

  • Family caregiving coordination
  • Creating remote reminders and reminder of checking in by caretaker or friends
  • Sensors that let a doctor, caretaker, family member or friends know that medicine has been taken
  • Communication systems setups help maintain relationships and fight off loneliness or depression

Home safety

  • Fall prevention – wall mounted, watch or pendent
  • Security
  • Lighting at schedule times or on a voice request.
  • Door locks at schedule times or on a voice request.
  • Motion detectors to turn on lights went people get up at night.
  • Voice-Activated Virtual Assistants can provide helpful information, companionship, and an easy link to the outside world.
  • Door sensor can be configured to send alerts to a trusted caregiver when the door is opened.
  • Devises that can make everyday tasks easier. There is an oven that can make preparing healthy meals a simple and safe process. There is a toaster oven, convection oven, air fryer, and slow cooker in one. Its ‘smarts’ include a built-in camera, so you can check on your food without getting off the couch; alerts to your phone when your food is almost ready; and simple touchscreen controls.
  • Sensors can monitor for intruders, but when connected to a smart home hub they can also do useful things like turn on lights when you walk past them or could be placed on a bathroom wall and scans constantly for movement. If it detects a fall, it immediately calls a trusted contact.
  • Energy monitoring device can be installed in your electrical panel and learns about the different devices working in your home. A caregiver who has access to the app can remotely monitor activity in the house, receiving alerts when devices turn on or off (or if they have been on or off for a certain amount of time), allowing them to monitor normal activity, and notice when it’s not occurred. This can be set to send alerts when certain devices turn on or off in a home, and it's capable of shutting down some devices remotely.
